Offline packs

The region data is open under the Open Database Licence, wherever a region has been built. Pick a region above and it downloads on first use. The app is free, and the data underneath it is open — there is nothing to buy and nothing renews.

Offline areas

Save the map for a trip before you lose signal. Roads, terrain and labels are stored on this device, so they still work with no signal at all. Nothing is sent anywhere, and an app update will not remove what you saved.

Getting one back: when a mate sends you a .gpx, tap it and choose My4wd — it opens straight in as a track you can drive. Tracks are handed phone to phone; nothing is uploaded, no account is needed either way, and no server of mine ever sees where you went.

Warnings and road closures, where a region has an official feed wired up, come straight from that authority — in Tasmania, the Tasmanian Government (theLIST / TasAlert).

Coverage is region by region, and grows as each pack is built and checked. Built so far: Tasmania, Iceland, Scottish Highlands, Colorado, Utah, Baja California Sur, Vancouver Island, Namibia, Chilean Patagonia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory. Selecting a region you have not downloaded before fetches its pack once, then it works offline. A region with no official warning feed says so instead of showing nothing.

Sea level is a modelled value, not an official tide prediction. Warnings show an "as at" time: an empty list means nothing has been reported, not that everywhere is safe.
